What Is Wet Shaving?
Ever since you were a teenager, you’ve probably had some stubble and have had to shave your face, for one reason or another. From the first day that you noticed a bit of extra peach fuzz, till now, you have also probably been using disposable razors too, to get the job done. Like Gillette, Bic, and Schick. All is right in the world. You shave your face, you go to work, ignorance is bliss.
However, now some jerk has told you about this wet shaving deal, and here you are scratching your head, wondering why on Earth? Who wants to risk slicing their neck open, so they can shave like their great grandpa? Isn’t that what technology was invented for and why we have electric razors now? Well, while wet shaving isn’t for everybody, it does have several benefits which make it the method of choice for me, and millions of other men.
Here is why…
It Gives a Perfect Shave: One of the biggest fallacies in the shaving community, is that multiple razors are better than one. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials with the multi-bladed razors lifting the hair out of its follicle, so by the time the last razor cuts it, your hair sits far beneath the follicle.
This is actually VERY bad, and what high end manufacturers have been campaigning to have you believe is the proper way to shave. This does two things. The first, is this is how you get ingrown hairs, which can wreck havoc on your face, especially without the use of proper after shave. The second is you will get razor burn, which hurts!
Also, ever noticed how your whiskers get stuck between the blade gaps? What you are doing is grinding them back into your face, not a good idea if you have sensitive skin or are prone to acne. However, through the process of wet shaving, you can get an incredibly close shave without your face hating you.
Its Much Cheaper: We are mostly talking about safety razors here, as an alternative to disposable razors. Safety and disposable razors are very similar in their application, but if you don’t know how to use them, click here. Straight razors are the other alternative, but they are a completely different animal. If you are looking to learn how to use a straight razor, click here.
So the major benefit of using a safety razor, because they are extremely cheap to use! Its been a while since I’ve used disposable razors, but I recently had to pick up some replacement razors for my uncle. Four replacement razors cost me north of $20! The razor itself is junk too, its attaching clip is made out of plastic, and its way too light.
This is how they fool you into purchasing, safety razors cost a wee bit more for the actual razor, but they will last you for decades, because they are made from stainless steel and are well constructed. They will save you tons of money in the meantime though, because most safety razors are double edged and use double edged blades (you can use it twice before throwing away). Plus each blade costs about 50 cents. You are saving a ton!
Its Manly!: Alright, this doesn’t exactly have a practical application, but its true. When you are in front of the mirror, its sacred time, time to reflect and time to prepare on the day which is ahead. Sure, we don’t want to spend gobs of time like women, but proper grooming is one of the most important things that we can do as men to get in touch with our inner alpha. We’ve been doing it for thousands of years, and the only thing that has changed is the process.
Think about that for a second. Grooming styles have been around for centuries, and there have been many. From Burnsides, to the Fu Manchu, all of these styles required proper shaving techniques, which couldn’t have been achieved without thorough care. Your facial hair is what defines you, and is the single method outside of clothes to show off that manly spirit we try to promote so much here at iamaguy.com.
